Hey Anjie here from Picasso Salon & Spa with this month’s Picasso’s Pick. I’ve been a stylist for over 9 years now and at Picasso Salon & Spa for about 7 years. It’s that time of year for special occasions like proms and weddings. With that in mind, my Picasso’s Pick for this month is special occasion hairstyles.
With special occasion hairstyles, I’d like to share some do’s and don’ts. First off, DO have a practice run. Let’s face it, you have enough to think about on the day of your prom or wedding, don’t try to experience a hairstyle that you have never worn before. Take some time before the precious day arrives to see your stylist and have your hair done. When talking with clients before their big wedding day or prom dance, they are usually very excited about how their hair will turn out. The technique, for me, comes very naturally. I enjoy listening to their wishes and concerns while taking every piece of hair and placing it a specific spot to create the masterpiece they have in mind.
Next is a don’t, DON’T do something drastic with your hair on your special occasion day. We’re not talking about wearing an updo, when you normally wear your hair down. I am talking about changing your color, or getting a perm, or an extreme cut. If you are thinking about doing any of these, make sure you do it way in advance of your day. This way you have time to recover, if you find you don’t like it.
One thing I know you will not like, is looking like a drenched cat on your special occasion, so DO consider the weather. If you’re getting married or going to a prom in hot humid weather consider the updo. Most clients like the effect of the natural waves when their hair is swept off the neckline and pinned in an updo. Having that hair off your neckline can be a lifesaver in hot humid weather, but it’s not a guarantee against weather.
One of the funniest moments I had with a bride was when the weather did affect her elegant updo. I remember she was rushing down a hallway towards her walk down the aisle. I was running with her, fixing pins and doing a final hairspray. Of course, it wasn’t funny at the time, but we laughed about it later. With that in mind, maybe DO consider having your stylist at your ceremony.
So if you have a special occasion coming up, DO contact your stylist at Picasso Salon & Spa. Ask for a practice run of your hairstyle and discuss it with her. It will give you piece of mind and one less thing to worry about on your big day. Then, make sure you mention that you read about it in Picasso’s Picks.
