“Tammy and I wanted to open a salon where our clients could come and feel like they were visiting friends. We wanted it to be warm, comfortable and relaxing not just for our guests but also for our staff. I knew we had accomplished this when the first few guests said they liked the atmosphere. We still hear that today.” Kim is an accomplished stylist of over 25 years and has extensive experience in working with thick coarse hair. Having trained with L’anza, Paul Mitchell, Matrix, Nexxus, Sebastian, Aveda and Schwarzkopf (just to name just a few) Kim has the talent and experience to not just provide exceptional hair services but also connect with people on a personal level. “The greatest compliment you can receive in this business is when a client who is unhappy with any part of your service allows you the opportunity to correct the problem. It means you’ve made them feel comfortable enough with you to come back and feel confident about that decision.”

“I thought about opening my own salon my first day of beauty school.” Co-owner of Picasso Tammy has worked as a stylist for over 28 years. “I take pride in the fact that I listen to my clients. Giving them what they want but also what will realistically work for their hair and lifestyle is not the easiest task. You really have to understand people and where they are coming from.” Tammy gained an impressive knowledge of the ins and outs of the industry having worked with L’anza, Sebastian, Wella, Matrix, Paul Mitchell, Schwarzkopf and Logics to name a few. “I’m a big believer in continuing education. It’s a huge part of owning a salon and being a working stylist. It keeps you fresh and engaged with clients and that’s so important. As an owner you want your employees to be excited about coming to work and applying new techniques. It keeps everybody motivated.”

With over 30 years of experience, Fatma has worked in England, Rome, Dubai, and owned her own salon in Libya. She was also with the Regis Corporation for 27 years.
Fatma has experience with several product lines including Wella, Matrix, Avange, L’Oréal, and most recently Schwarzkopf. Continuing education helps her keep up with trends in hair care and styling. Fatma is Picasso Salon’s color specialist and has earned the title “foil queen”. Her expertise is in special occasion styles and up-dos.
Fatma loves giving clients a new look that fits their lifestyle. She is known for her thorough consultations with clients to ensure they will be pleased with the outcome!

When asked what her favorite part of the job is Renee says, “I enjoy the friendships that I’ve made with my clients over the years. People have to put a lot of trust in stylists so it means the world when I can call clients friends. It means I’m doing something right that they not only trust me with their hair but also with their friendship.” Renee has more than 20 years experience in the hair industry. A believer in continuous education Renee has recently finished her certification to perform the Keratin Complex Hair Therapy smoothing treatment by Coppola. Having worked with multiple color lines over the years Renee has the experience and confidence to satisfy your most difficult hair needs. “When you’re there for people they’re there for you. It starts with solving a hair crisis and ends with a friendship”.

Kathy Hermans has been in the hair industry for more than 23 years. She stays current by constantly educating herself on new techniques and trends. “I think communication is the most important thing in this business. If you and your client aren’t on the same page what they want and what you provide are going to be two very different things.” Kathy has made it a priority over the years to master stylist/client communication to better provide for her guests. Her amazing personality and communication skills have made Kathy an extraordinary talent and asset to Picasso’s team. “I want my clients to feel beautiful and relaxed when they leave. If they’re not happy then I’m not happy and that’s the way it should be.”

“I think continuing education is an important aspect for inspiring current trends and advancements in color and cutting.” Jeri Butler Tuttle’s career in the hair industry has spanned over three decades. Having worked up and down the east coast from Maine to Florida, Jeri finally makes her home in Virginia. A true local her favorite part about the salon business here at the beach is the local clientele she has built over the years. “There is something to be said about the stylist/client connection in our area. People here are so loyal and I’m so appreciative.”

“I consider my clients friends. Some I have been styling for over 20 years,” says Pungo resident Lynn Tilghman. A true local of Virginia Beach Lynn has been styling the residents in our area for 28 years. “I believe communication is really important between a stylist and a guest. Also pictures! Pictures are good. I’m a very hands-on, visual person so anything to help understand someone’s needs is always welcome.” Over the years Lynn has taken classes to further her education and has had training with different color lines including L’anza and Schwarzkopf. She enjoys broadening her hair horizons and loves any opportunity to give someone a makeover.

Anjie Compres is a local resident of Virginia Beach. She graduated in 2008 from Virginia Beach Cosmetology Academy with her license to practice. She has attended San Francisco, CA and Chicago, IL at the Vidal Sassoon Academy for creative cutting. She has worked with L’anza, Aveda, Schwarzkopf and Paul Mitchell, Color Proof Salons, where she has learned different multi-dimensional coloring techniques. Anjie specializes in Special Occasion hairstyles, as she loves expressing her creativity. She was featured in Spring/Summer issue of, VowBrides magazine and Costal Virginia Brides. She has graduated with her Associates Degree in Business Administration, and is now studying for her Bachelor Degree in Marketing at Old Dominion University. She enjoys acting like a sponge and absorbing as much information as possible with working and coordination with different departments. Anjie is also certified in Keratin Complex smoothing therapy. Her clients leave with a pleasant experience every time.
